The dramatic peaks that climb up around Chalet Europe bestow a richness on this mountainside retreat that is balanced by warm hospitality and a laid back atmosphere. Sitting quizzically above the Columbia Valley on the western face of the Rocky Mountains, Chalet Europe looks over the town of Radium Hot Springs, and is close to the therapeutic hot springs of Kootenay National Park. Here superior views entice everyone, from eager travellers to the charming local deer that wander through the surrounding mountainside.
Views from third floor Bugaboo Suites are particularly impressive, with the Purcell and Rocky Mountains piercing the skyline while the stone trimmed fireplace crackles contentedly in the corner. The high vaulted ceilings inspire a sense of adventure that can be sought with nearby white water rafting or paragliding endeavours, and air conditioning, French doors and a bright, cozy atmosphere welcome evenings of leisurely conversation. There are also movies to be enjoyed after a journey through nearby Kindersley Pass, and complimentary coffee that conspires with a refreshing shower to make sure you can tackle these high alpine ridges in the first place.
Rooms include a separate kitchenette ideal for preparing your own meals (or brewing your own cup of relaxing afternoon tea), and you can also make use of the on-site barbeque. Dining in Radium Hot Springs is delicious and diverse, so sample a Hungarian dish from Citadella, cozy up to the alpine scenery while dining on Austrian schnitzel, or get messy with some ribs from Back Country Jacks.
Once fortified with a satisfying meal, embark on one of the many recommended hiking trails in nearby Kootenay Park, where miniature icebergs float in the turquoise waters of Floe Lake and therapeutic hot springs draw flocks of visitors each year. You can also relax in the games room of the chalet, or plan a day trip to Simpson Monument or Marble Canyon with the help of the welcoming, warm staff.
