Halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, you'll find Hotel Montfort in Nicolet. This new Centre-du-Quebec arrival sits perfectly between the two urban centres as a definitive escape from urban noise - a real refuge into nature. The red brick edifice sits solidly along the Nicolet River, surrounded by trees and shrubbery and well-manicured lawns. One thing's for sure - no matter what time of year you visit, there will always be postcard-worthy scenery at every turn. Lush greenery transforms into crisp, vibrant fall hues, and eventually, a soft powdery blanket covers the ground for a monochrome effect.
Don't let the strong, robust exterior of the hotel fool you; indoors you'll find warm colours, soft bedding, and plump pillows. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are there for a perk-up, or a soothing moment. Walls are lined with the poetry and imagery of the Pelleteurs de nuages, and you may lose yourself for a minute while you examine these unique pieces (also available for purchase in the gift shop). The Detente Room's therapeutic charm continues in the bathroom, where eco-friendly green tea bath products beckon you towards the bathtub.
Chef Marise Hunter and her team combine the region's culinary influences with local ingredients, turning out a memorable menu of delectable dishes. Picnics are also available upon order to take with you on long hikes. That being said, the hotel also offers an extensive menu of active pursuits and provides appropriate equipment. Aside from hiking, choose from biking, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boating. There is an indoor pool on-site and a spa and terrace on the roof of the hotel as well. In the winter, navigate the outdoors by cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
The boutique hotel, although conveniently close to Montreal and Quebec City, is minutes away from the Museum of World Religions in Nicolet, and Trois Rivieres. There is a lot to see in this city, including guided group tours of the city's historical and religious influences, Saint-Quentin Island Park, the Old Prison of Trois Rivieres (a truly haunting experience) and a slew of art galleries. There are also plenty of restaurants, including legendary steak at Le Grill.
