Staking their claim in the lush Florida landscape, the PGA has crafted five courses collectively designed by some of the world's best architects like Fazio, Palmer, and Litten.

Nearly 100 years ago, the fervor for golf that had crossed over the Atlantic from its native Scotland infused a group of American golf professionals who went on to create what would be the world's largest working sports organization - the PGA. Committed to premiere spectator events and world-class education, the PGA hosts one of the world's most recognized sporting events and creates some of the best golf courses in the world.

The Haig was the first course opened for play at PGA National Resort in 1980, and sweet smelling roses line the holes where water hazards are present but easy to navigate - a measured introduction to the expertise of the PGA courses. The short and narrow Squire is dubbed "a thinking man’s course", while the Palmer holds a Scottish nostalgia in its links routing, undulating fairways and numerous grass bunkers. You will not begrudge the additional surcharge required to play the Champion Course, because it's here you'll find memories of the 1983 Ryder Cup and the 1987 PGA Championship that were hosted on this world famous green.


Off the Greens


The attention to detail and commitment to excellence mandated by the PGA has inspired a resort so thoughtful that it has been granted a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor for the year 2011. At PGA National Resort, a luxurious 40,000 square-foot European spa perfectly complements a day on the greens with its detox seaweed wraps or "Waters of the World" mineral pools, and nine alternative pools are available throughout the grounds.

Seven diverse restaurants are available, where grilled steaks or casual appetizers are waiting to be paired with the perfect wine or cocktail, and intimate dining or a sports bar atmosphere can both be equally favoured. Try a blackened red snapper from Ironwood Steak and Seafood, a mega grilled cheese from iBar, or kick back with a pint and the big screen at The Bear Trap. You can also pluck a pastry and a perfectly brewed cup from the Starbucks kiosk to be enjoyed on your room’s own private balcony, or stock your mini fridge and stay in to enjoy the WiFi and flat screen TV.
